UNCG to discontinue Physics and Astronomy program

On Feb. 2, 2024, UNCG Chancellor Frank Gilliam announced the Physics and Astronomy department would be among several programs to be terminated. This decision has received widespread condemnation. The Greensboro Astronomy Club, which was founded in 1938 by UNCG faculty, released a statement of support.
